Purpose

Mission and long-term purpose

Carbonix Limited is a UK-based advisory and project-development company. We support national and local institutions to assess risk, strengthen systems, develop partnerships and build the capabilities needed to protect people, livelihoods and the environment.

Our role is to bring together government institutions, communities, universities, civil-society organisations and specialist technical partners to develop practical, locally appropriate programmes.

Disaster management and environmental management are not treated as unrelated divisions. Climate change, degraded ecosystems, unsafe development, weak institutions and inadequate preparedness can all increase the impact of floods, landslides, cyclones and other hazards.

Operating model

We work with institutions, not around them

The language we use is deliberate: we work with, we support and we bring together. Carbonix coordinates; specialists deliver their discipline; governments retain ownership.

01

Partnership first

We work with, we support and we bring together. Carbonix does not claim every specialist capability in-house.

02

Practical programmes

Designs that fit local institutions, can be retained after a project ends, and can be adapted elsewhere.

03

Clear status

Concepts, work under development and exploratory collaborations are labelled. We do not imply funded delivery.

04

Knowledge transfer

Capacity building and documentation so partners can continue the work without a permanent external team.

How we work

Four steps from assessment to knowledge transfer

01

Assess

Understand hazards, vulnerabilities, existing systems and institutional capacity before proposing a programme.

02

Connect

Assemble suitable government, community, academic and technical partners, with clear institutional roles.

03

Design

Develop a locally relevant programme, delivery plan and funding strategy that can be owned nationally.

04

Deliver and transfer

Implement, train, monitor and embed knowledge in local institutions so the work can continue.

Geography

Where this work is focused

We work internationally, with a particular interest in Commonwealth countries, small states and climate-vulnerable communities. Sri Lanka is an important initial focus, with the potential to develop approaches that can be adapted to other national contexts.

International outlook

We work with institutions that need practical disaster-resilience and environmental programmes, not a one-size-fits-all model.

Commonwealth and small states

A particular interest in Commonwealth countries, small states and climate-vulnerable communities, where institutional capacity and partnership design matter.

Sri Lanka as an initial focus

Sri Lanka is an important initial focus, with the potential to develop approaches that can be adapted to other national contexts.
